On Roatan Island, a tropical paradise located two hours off the
coast of Miami, you will find a striking natural beauty highlighted
by its incredible barrier reef; Caribbean ambience, and wonderful
families in need of our help. Hondurans cater to American tourism, and yet it is the
second poorest country in the Americas.
While Roatan, just north of Honduras in Central America,
has become a beautiful vacation destination, there are
thousands of equally beautiful children living there in
severe poverty. They live in tiny shacks made of patched
pieces of tin with no electricity, plumbing or even the
basic necessities such as a bed to sleep in. Sleeping on
the dirt floors exposes these children to parasites and
significant illnesses that can last a lifetime.
On May 3rd, 2008 SOFTLY volunteers will travel to
Roatan to deliver and assemble pre-drilled wooden bunk
beds with mattresses to many families on the island.
Join us, and you will see first hand the deep gratitude
and delight in the children’s eyes, and their parents as
they help you assemble the beds in their tiny dwellings.
For many, the parents and the children, it is the first
sign of kindness and hope that they have ever seen from
“outsiders.”

We will have a group of 15-20 volunteers led by Jodi
Scholes and Jeff Wolf. And we promise you, it’s not all
work – there will be plenty of time to enjoy this lush
tropical island which offers opportunities to snorkel,
scuba dive, canopy rides, swim with the dolphins, visit
the Iguana Farm or simply enjoy the white sandy beaches.
The evenings are spent in open air restaurants with
island music in the background while you watch the sun
set over the sparkling blue Caribbean.
SOFTLY International is a non—profit humanitarian
organization serving children and their families living
in poverty in Central America. These tours are the
perfect combination of vacationing with a purpose and
passion to make a lasting difference in the lives of
children in our global family.
From 2005 to date, our work in Roatan, Honduras provided
hundreds of beds to children sleeping on dirt floors.
Although the island is small - the poverty is enormous
and the need for beds is pervasive. We have
developed outstanding relationships with the local
government, businesses and the island community, all of
whom are committed to helping SOFTLY help their
island.
To
find out more about joining these and other groups going
to Roatan please contact
Jodi
Scholes.
We are also hoping other
individuals, schools, and churches will step forward to
host bed builds. Not to worry - a SOFTLY
representative will be with your group the entire time
to create the bed build and also to make sure your group
has a wonderful time on this beautiful island.
Please help with
donations of your time and money. Join the "SOFTLY
Friends of Roatan". |
